Abstract

This study was conducted to assess the predictive role of electric cardiometry derived thoracic fluid content in respiratory intensive care unit patients. Materials and methods This observational analytical prospective study was conducted to assess predictive role of electric cardiometry derived thoracic fluid content in respiratory intensive care unit patients, 130 patients >18 years old were enrolled in the study ; 26 males and 104 females with their age ranged from 18 to 70 years with a mean age of 52.83±13.12 years during the period from December 2019 to December 2020. Results : The mean values of thoracic fluid content in all days were significantly higher in died cases than in survived cases. As a result, thoracic fluid content predicted the outcome of intensive care patients extremely well (p 0.001). Conclusions Higher TFC is associated with poor outcome, prolonged duration of invasive mechanical ventilation and Length of RICU stay especially in hypoxemic non hypercapenic patients.
