Abstract

Background: Hospital managers and decision makers need to work towards the implementation of empowerment environment and focus on the factors promoting empowerment to enhance nurse’s productivity and achieve positive health outcomes through enhancing workaholism and eliminating aggressive behaviors. Aim: To examine the role of empowerment on incidence of workaholism and aggressive behavior among nurses. Methods: Descriptive correlational research design included a convenient sample of staff nurses who were working at Dikirness general hospital. By using empowerment scales, workaholism analysis scale and the Bass-Perry aggression scale. Results: nearly half of the studied nurses (51.9%) had high level of overall empowerment. More than half of the studied nurses (68.3%) had moderate level of workaholism. The majority of the studied nurses (73.6) had low level of aggressive behaviors. Conclusion: there were highly statistically significant positive relationships between empowerment and workaholism whereas there were highly statistically significant negative relationships between empowerment and aggressive behavior .Recommendation: Hospital managers and decision makers need to work towards the implementation of empowered environment and focus on the factors promoting empowerment to enhance nurse’s productivity and achieve positive health outcomes.
