Influenza virus remains in the top of 10 most common global diseases in the 21st century between 9.3 to 45 million people experience symptoms of influenza annually. Due to aging immune system and co-morbidities, the elders are particularly vulnerable, with 90% of influenza-related deaths. Globally, acute respiratory infections are the 4th leading cause of death, and cause over 4.25 million deaths each year. Aim : Assess knowledge and attitude of older adults toward common cold, influenza and pneumococcal vaccination. Method : A descriptive, correlational study was utilized with a convenient sample of180 older adults. Setting : The study was conducted at the Geriatric outpatient clinic of Mansoura Specialized Hospital (affiliated to ministry of health) and Mansoura University Specialized Medical Hospital Tools of data collection : 3 tools were used to collect data, demographic data structured interview sheet, common cold, influenza and pneumococcal vaccination knowledge questionnaire sheet and common cold, influenza and pneumococcal vaccination attitude questionnaire sheet. Results : There was a significant positive correlation between knowledge and attitude score (r= 0.196, p = <.05). Conclusion : The majority of the studied older adults had poor level of knowledge and negative attitude toward common cold, influenza and pneumococcal vaccination. Recommendations : Implementation of health education program for older adults about the precautions of infection prevention for influenza virus and common cold to improve their health status and the quality of life.
