Abstract

The aim of the current study was to determine the epidemiology of Ankle fractures regarding the overall incidence, incidence of each type, incidence of open fracture, incidence of diabetic patients and associated injuries. This was an analytical study conducted on a total of 60 patients who were presented to the Mansoura University Emergency Hospital (MUEH), Mansoura, Egypt for one year (from August 2022 To August 2023) with Ankle fracture the patients. This study revealed the following results: •The mean age of the studied cases was 37 and Male to female (M/F) ratio was 55/45. •The most common mode of trauma was ankle twist, followed by RTA then FTG and lastly FFH. •Most of the studied cases were Closed Weber A1 (30%), followed by Closed Weber B2 (20%) and Closed Weber A2 (20%), then Open -Weber B3, Open -Weber B2 and Closed Weber B1 which representing 10% for each.•The majority of the studied cases were closed fracture (80%), while only 20% of which was open fracture. •Fifty percent of the studied cases had no associated injuries. •The percentages of Monophasic anterior and posterior tibial arteries (ATA-PTA), Cut wound in foot, Biphasic (ATA-PTA) and anterior tibiofibular ligament injury were about 50, 10, 10, 20 and 10 respectively. •Fifty percent of the studied cases had no associated fractures. The percentage of surgical neck humerus, Fracture LL BB, Fracture NOF, Fracture L2-3 and Fracture Calcaneus was about 10% for each type of fractures. •Fifty percent of the studied cases had no associated diseases. •DM and HTN and smoking were recorded in 10%, 40% and 40% of cases respectively. •Most of the studied cases were treated by operation (80%), And only 20% of which were undegone Cast managemant. Conclusion: Ankle fractures occur most commonly in middle-aged subjects with higher male incidence. The most common mode of injury is ankle twisting (FTG) followed by RTA. Weber A and B demonstrated similar incidence (50% for each). Smoking history play an essential role in decision taking for the studied cases.
