Abstract

Central line associated blood stream infection is responsible for increasing the mortality in pediatric intensive care units, prolonged hospitalization and increasing healthcare expenses. A large proportion of these infections are preventable and there is a growing body of evidence to help raise awareness of the global burden of harm caused by these infections, including strategies to reduce their spread. Therefore, infection control measures must be applied anywhere and anytime. The study aimed to design a web-based module regarding infection control measures associated with central venous catheter at pediatric intensive care units. Methodology: Mixed research study design was used throughout this study. Combination between A cross-sectional study design and Delphi Method. Results: The study revealed that 40% of nurses showed poor knowledge level in relation to infection control measures associated with central venous catheter and 35% of them showed incompetent performance level. Conclusion: This study concluded that participants are ready to adopt web-based learning and recognize its uses in practical education. They were satisfied with the web-based module content. Recommendation: The study recommended that healthcare settings should adopt e-learning courses about infection control measures of central venous catheter at pediatric care units as continuing education system.
