Abstract

”The bacterial resistance to antibacterial agents is a threat to public health throughout the world. It could be due to genetic or structural changes (cell wall or enzymes), so this resistance is a major medical problem for patient and physician. Antibiotics are used against a broad range of pathogenic bacteria . affect the public health. The present work aimed to detect the antimicrobial activity of some herbal plant extract against Urinary tract microorganisms from patients admitted in Mansoura University Hospitals. The obtained results were ummarized in the following points: 1- Fifty clinical isolates of Proteus were obtained from patients admitted to ICUs of different Mansoura University Hospitals. The laboratory procedures were carried out at the Microbiology Diagnostic and infection control unit (MDICU) as well as in Microbial Genetics unit, in Medical Microbiology and Immunology department, Faculty of Medicine Mansoura University. The isolation and identification of the isolates were carried out by primary identification, colony morphology, gram stained film, manual biochemical tests and the antibiotic sensitivity tests were carried out by disc diffusion methods. Out of 50 isolates, 40 multi drug resistant Proteus were used.2-The results of antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of 50 clinical Proteus isoletes from urine showed high resistance is detected with Ceftazidime CAZ (98%), followed by Amoxicillin AMX(96%).And the lowest resistance is with Meropenem MEM ( 18%). 3- seven ethanolic extracts derived from seven medicinal plant species were screened for their antibacterial activity against Proteus isolates. Of all extracts, the ethanolic extract of clove in Proteus was the most active and effective one with inhibition zones diameter ranged between( 14mm-25mm ) in Proteus Followed by slight activity of green tea. 4- The activities of medicinal herbal plants extracts against Proteus isolates used have shown good activity when compared with antibiotics. Activity of antibiotics compared with different alcoholic plant extracts against 40 clinical Proteus isolates showed that clove extract has greater antimicrobial activity among all the extracts its maximum value of the zone of the inhibition is noted against Proteus 25mm approximately .
