This study relied on the descriptive approach, the historical approach, and some statistical methods, in order to analyze the data collected from sources, references, and the field study. This is for the purpose of identifying the physical and human potential that the region enjoys, and it plays a major role in the process of economic development if it is exploited well. This was done through six chapters, where the first chapter dealt with: studying the geographical location, spatial relationships, geological characteristics, surface appearances, and climatic characteristics, as well as The soil and water resources available in the region were studied, in addition to the study of the natural vegetation. It was found that most of the geological formations in the region, which cover large areas in the Jaghbub Formation and the Qarat Maryam Formation, are mostly composed of limestone, and their economic importance is that they are an essential source of materials. The raw material, represented by (pure limestone, building stones, and shreshour stones), and it was found that most of the arable areas are located in the northern parts of the region (Al-Batnan and Al-Dafna Plateau), in addition to the fact that most of the soil in the region is not suitable for agriculture; This is due to its location in the desert area and its lack of organic materials. As for the second chapter: the study of the population of the region was addressed, by studying population growth, whether the result of natural or unphysical increase through migration, in addition to the geographical distribution of the population, as well as their age and gender composition, and the economic composition and educational status of the population were also studied. It was found that the Al-Batnan region witnessed an increase in population growth during the period (1954 - 2020 AH), but this increase was clearly in the period (1954 - 1973 AH), while the trade and social services sector represented the most important sectors, with a percentage of Its employees are 73.2% of the total workers in the region, and the reason for this is due to the region’s location, which gave it a commercial character, and also the diversity of ports and roads that connect it with other regions and neighboring countries.
