Abstract

The main objective of this study emerges through identifying the formation of urban spaces and their impact on the network of social relations, a field study in the city of Baghdad, and then the main question of this study is how urban spaces contribute to framing the structure of social interaction and communication. The study used the social survey approach and relied on a main tool, which is the questionnaire tool, with (190) individuals from the two selected residential complexes in Al-Karkh (Al-Ayadi Complex / near Biskolata) and Al-Rusafa (Zayyouna Residential Complex) of the city of Baghdad. Objectives of the study: The objectives of this study are as follows: 1-Identify the reality of the network of social relationships and the prevailing patterns of social interaction in the urban spaces of the selected residential complexes in the city of Baghdad. 2-Identify the reflection of the interrelation between the spatial formation of urban spaces on the activities and events of social life in the urban environment of the residential complexes of the city of Baghdad. 3- Identifying the benefits of social communication relationships between residents, which urban spaces provide in encouraging face-to-face meetings between people, achieving social interaction and belonging, and increasing the efficiency of social relationships among them. Results: Results of the field study: • The results of the study indicated gender: in the first place, male, with a percentage of 65.3%, and in the second place, female, with a percentage of 34.7%. • The results of the study indicated age. In the first place, less than 30 by 36.8%, in the second place 30-35 by 22.6%, in the third place 40-50 by 12.1%, in the fourth place 35-40 by 11.6%, and in the fifth place 55 and over by 10.0. % and in sixth place is less than 50-55 by 6.8%. • The results of the study indicated residence. In the first place was ownership with a rate of 52.1%, and in the second place was rent with a rate of 33.2%. There was a group that did not mention the category of residence with a rate of 14.7. • The results of the study indicated that according to the years of residence in the residential complex, in the first place they lived in the complex for (5-8) years, at a rate of 64.2%, and in the second place, the highest length of stay in the residence was 9-12 years, at a rate of 12.1%, and in the third place, the duration of residence in the residence. 13-15 years, with a rate of 7.8%, and in fourth place, length of stay in housing, 1-4, and 19-20 years, with a close response rate of 5.2%. • The results of the study indicated that the sample members evaluated the system of urban spaces within your residential complex: in the first place, it was acceptable, with a rate of 68%, in the second place, it was good, with a rate of 69%, in the third place, it was excellent, with a rate of 20%, and in the final fourth place, it was bad, with a rate of 15%. • The results of the study indicated that there are gardens in the complex, showing that all members of the sample answered yes by 100%. Study recommendations: Urban spaces must be given greater importance in their designs and formation, as they are considered an outlet and starting point for social atmospheres, needs, and events. - Taking into consideration the social dimension due to its importance and impact on the urban environment and the formation and design of urban spaces. - Introducing modern technologies in various fields of renewal and rehabilitation of urban spaces, applying them and striving to achieve urban qualities between the past and the present in the formation of gradation, containment and design that serves members of society in its social, economic and cultural activities. - Enhancing the factors of social attraction in urban spaces by increasing urban furnishing of various types and increasing afforestation and shading, which increases the diversity of social activities within the boundaries of the space and increases the degree of its occupancy and the homogeneity of activities within it. - Strengthening spatial connectivity, social identity and harmony of urban space in new residential complexes to create a certain pattern of positive social relations. - It is necessary to take into account social, humanitarian and economic needs when designing and planning residential complexes as a primary goal of stability for these communities.
