Abstract

Background: People with intellectual disabilities (IDs) especially students experienced inferior health and poor access to good quality. Students with (IDs) usually experienced oral health disparities than their normal peers as they have lower oral health indexes. Optimum oral health is associated with improvement in the quality of students’ lives. Those students need support to maintain optimal oral health outcomes and health education on good oral health has a positive impact on students with (IDs). This study aims to design a video prompting about oral hygiene directed at primary caregivers and teachers of students with (IDs). Method: A cross-sectional study design was utilized to accomplish this study. A purposive sample of 54 students with IDs, 54 of their primary caregivers, and 54 of their teachers. Judgmental sample of 16 experts’ panel for three Delphi rounds. Tools: Eight tools were used for the preliminary assessment, Delphi survey, and evaluation stage. The researcher designed all the tools except the first and second tools which were adopted from El-Gilany, 2012 and Greene, 1964. Results: indicated that 53.7% of students with ID had a poor level of oral hygiene status, 100 % of primary caregivers and 98.1% of teachers of students with IDs had a poor level of knowledge regarding oral hygiene as well; 85.2% of primary caregivers and 98.1% of teachers had an improper level of subjective practice related to oral hygiene. The researcher concludes that; almost all expert panels, primary caregivers, and teachers of students with IDs strongly agreed on all evaluation domains of the designed video prompting regarding oral hygiene. Accordingly, the researcher recommended providing the designed video prompting to primary caregivers and teachers of students with IDs and disseminating the video across the national scale in schools and institutions of students with IDs.
