The Geography of Crime in the Iraqi Governorate of Babylon an Analytic Study of the Period
(2010 – 2020) using GIS The thesis included five chapters preceded by an introduction; The student presented an Introduction to the subject of the study and the identification of the study area, the reasons for choosing the topic, the objectives of the study, previous studies, the study methods, and methods, the sources of the study, the difficulties faced by the student, the terms of the study, and finally the contents of the study. The study was then concluded with a conclusion in which the student presented the most important results he reached and the recommendations of the thesis, and it ended with a list of attachments, a list of Arabic and foreign sources and references, then a summary of the study in Arabic and another in English. The first chapter addressed the natural factors affecting crime in Babilon Governorate, which are represented in the location and spatial relations, surface features, and climatic characteristics, including solar radiation, temperature, wind, and rain, to identify the impact of these factors on crime in Babylon Governorate. The second chapter discussed the human factors affecting crime in Babylon Governorate, which are represented in the study of the distribution and density of the population, the study of their age and qualitative composition, alongside the study of the impact of urbanization on crime and security services in Babylon Governorate ,and exploring the relationship between population density and the volume of crimes . This also included the examination of the number of crimes studied per (10,000) inhabitants of Babil Governorate. The third chapter focused on The spatial distribution of crimes and their development in Babylon Governorate, where three axes were studied the first axis: was the temporal development of crime forms in Babylon Governorate for the period from (2010-2020), and the second axis: was the spatial distribution of crimes in Babylon Governorate, and includes the distribution of crimes in Al-Hilla District, Al-Mahawil District, and in Al-Musayyab District, then the distribution of crimes in Al-Hashimiyya District. The second axis is interested in studying the identification of crime concentration areas in Babylon Governorate in three points, namely identifying the ranges of concentration of murder crimes in Babylon Governorate, then identifying the ranges of concentration of theft crimes in the governorate, in addition to identifying the ranges of concentration of drug crimes in Babylon Governorate. The fourth chapter highlighted the demographic and economic factors of crime perpetrators in the Babylon Governorate through a field study in 2023. The study examined the demographic characteristics of crime perpetrators in Babylon, such as age and qualitative composition, educational status, marital status, and occupational composition. The second axis in the chapter is the economic characteristics of crime perpetrators in Babylon, represented in the study of the monthly income source of the perpetrators, then the housing of the perpetrators, the place of residence of the perpetrator, and the place of the crime. The third axis in the chapter is the study of the relationship between the perpetrator and the victim, and the fourth axis is the study of the journey to crime. The fifth chapter discussed the characteristics of perpetrators of crimes in the Babylon Governorate, in three main axes: the first axis is the study of the security implications of crime in Babylon, for murder, theft, and drug crimes. The second axis is the economic and social consequences of crime in Babylon Governorate, which includes several points: the study of the distribution of perpetrators of crimes according to the monthly expenditure of their families, the number of family members of the perpetrators, the effects of tribal conflict on perpetrators of crimes, then the deportation of the perpetrator’s family, and the social appearance of the perpetrators. The third axis is the crime prevention strategy in Babylon Governorate, represented in the study of the plan to address the crime problem and security information, then reducing the chances of crime, arrest operations. The study was concluded with a conclusion in which the student presented the most important results of the study that he reached, and some recommendations that may in turn contribute to overcoming crime problems.
