Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigation the effects of different salinity levels as well as withholding water and excessive application of water, on growth and metabolism of soybean, bush bean and kidney bean plants at various stages of plant growth and development. Growth and chemical compositional changes in the yield of seeds from the variously treated plants were also carried out. The results of the two experiments conducted showed that the observed responses of growth of soybean, bush bean and kidney bean plants as well as of the yield of seeds from the three test plants were dependent on (1) the concentration of salinity (experiment I), (2) the availability of water (experimentII) and (3) the age of the tested plants. Thus all the measured criteria of growth remained unchanged, accelerated or, in most cases suppressed with particular significance.
