Abstract

The aim of the present work is to apply the method of lines (MOL)for the full wave analysis of various forms of integrated microwave and millimeter-wave structures, such as microstrip lines, image, and dielectric rib waveguides. At first, in order to demonstrate the reliability and performance of the MOL, we have analyzed the characteristics of the single and coupled microstrip lines. The obtained results are compared with the published data and good agreement is found. We then examined the application of MOL to the analysis of open image and rib waveguides. Both single and coupled structures are considered. In addition, the present technique is developed for calculating the current distribution, conductor and dielectric losses of microstrip lines. The planar transmission lines (e.g., microstrip lines, slot line, and fin line) form the basic transmission medium for microwave intergrated circuites (MIC’s)whether the circuites are fabricated in hybrid or monmlithic form (MMIC’s) . the microstrip lines are the main building blocks for microwave integrated circuites, becase they offer simple geometries, easy fabrication and incorporation of active devices. In addition, the coupled microstrip lines arising from the basic microstrip lines, are widely used in directional couples, filters, and delay lines.
