Abstract
The present work was undertaken to study the distribrution , size and cell contents of taste buds in fishes, amphibia , reptiles , birds and rodents and to corre-late between the distribution and the function of gustatory organs• Specimens were taken from the tongue , palate and in addition the outer surface of the head of fishes • 3 • The taste buds in fishes were widely distributed; in mouth cavity , tongue , phaxy. , In amphibia , the taste buds were confined to the mouth cavity and the tongue , The latter was provided with fungi worm , In reptiles, the tongue and mouth cavity was cornified and the taste buds were found in the floor of the mouth adjoining the root of the tongue .
