Abstract

The structure of boucle fancy yarns produced on hollow spindle wrap spinning machines was controlled by two main machine parameters, wraps per meter and over­feed ratio between core and effect component yarns. The plan of experimental work were designed and constructed to study the effect of machine parameters on both physical and mechanical properties of boucle fancy yarns. A number of thirty­six boucle fancy yarns are produced on SAURER ALLMA hollow spindle twisting machine at six levels of, both, wraps per meter and over­feed ratio. Some samples of boucle yarn with the same machine parameters and different material are produced. In addition, the effect of material parameters on boucle fancy yarns properties is studied. Considering the selected yarns, plain, 1x1 rib, half cardigan, and full cardigan knitted fabrics are produced. The effect of machine parameters and material parameters on knitted fabric properties in terms of thickness, weight, and cover factor are studied. Moreover, the effect of boucle yarns physical properties in terms of yarn metric count and yarn bulk on the previous knitted fabric parameters is considered.The obtained results indicated that. two breaking points are happened while loading the tested yams. The first breaking point represents the maximum breaking load while the second breaking point depends on yarn structure. Yarn and fabric properties are remarkably affected by over-feed ratio. Increasing over-feed ratio. yam tenacity (g/tex) decreases at 1st breaking point with a value ranged from 27 % to 33.15 % while it decreases at 2nd breaking point with a value ranged from 30.13 % to 42.94 %. in addition. yarn breaking extension increases at I ~ breaking point with a value ranged from 1.83 % to 17.06 %. Yam bulk increases with a value ranged from 9.32 % to 19.69 % and yarn count (Nm) decreases with an average value varies from 23.61 % to 31.46 %. Also, yam diameter increases with a value ranged from 32% to 48.82 %.
