Abstract

An experimental study was carried out in this thesis to study the behavior of reinforced concrete flat plates with DROP part at different positions. All plates dimension 125x125 cm and 5.0 cm thickness and are supported at four concrete columns. The plate thickness and DROP sides thickness were constant and equally. The plates tested by a uniformly distributed load.The factors taken in consideration of this work are: DROP dimensions factor, DROP height factor where it is the distance between two levels, the main plate and the DROP part of the plate and Position of DROP part.For all testes, the following measurements were made: the deflection at chosen points, the cracking load at first visible crack, the failure load, the overall crack pattern after failure was marked in both sides of the flat plates and the steel strains at selected locations.A comparison between the experimental and theoretical esultes by yield line theory and non­linear finite element program was made.Finally, an attempt to define when the DROP part size and location are critical and some recommendations to help the designers were given.
