Abstract
Conventional synchronous machines have been used in common industrial systems for many years as cinstant speed machines. however, these excited field machines are generally limited to sizes of approximately about ten horse power and above becomes unattractive in smaller horse power Nevertheless there is a class of applications where low power synchronous machines have distinct advantage over other types.
