Abstract The thesis comprises three main chapters: Chapter I is concerned with an introduction reviewing concisely the relevant literature related to the subject of the thesis, corrosion definition, types and theories of corrosion. Chapter II deals with the experimental part. It includes composition of C-steel used, the preparation of the test specimens for the different techniques of measurements and methods of preparation of materials of various solutions used. Also, the procedures followed for corrosion measurements, using weight loss, galvanostatic polarization, and ac impedance techniques are including in this chapter.Chapter III deals with the results obtained and their interpretations. This chapter is divided into five separated sections; A, B, C, D and E. Section A : studied the effectiveness of the first and second group compounds (thiazolidine-5-one derivatives) as corrosion inhibitors in the presence and absence of 1x10-2M KI for C-steel in acidic medium (2M HCl) by weight loss technique. Also, studied the effect of temperature on the corrosion rates in the presence and absence of the first and second group compounds in acidic medium. Section B : studied the above items except effect of temperature by galvanostatic polarization technique. Section C : studied the effectiveness of first and second group compounds by using ac impedance technique. Section D : studied the use of quantum-chemical calculations for studying the effectiveness of the used corrosion inhibitors. Finally section E : studied the effectiveness of first and second group compounds by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and analysis of C-steel surface after addition of thiazolidine-5-one compounds. The order of decreasing inhibition efficiency is: compound D > compound C > compound B> compound A and for second group compounds is compound 4 > compound 3 > compound 2 > compound 1. The adsorption of the thiazolidine-5-one obeys the Langmuir’s adsorption isotherm. |
