Abstract The present work is carried out to study the sedimentology, mineralogy and geochemistry of the pink limestone and associated rocks representing the upper most limit of the rock exposures in the western Mediterranean coastal table land region. Seven sections have been measured in different localities namely ; Khashm El - Ish, Ras El - Hekma, Wadi Madwar, Wadi Kheir, Wadi El - Garawla, Matruh airport and Wadi El - kharruba. Fourty six samples have been selected from the total numbers of samples which were collected from those sections. the samples represent mainly the pink limestone beds , the overlying thin calcrete crust and the underlying Middle Miocene Limestone in order to indentify and interpreting the genesis of the pink limestone in concern, the conditions of sedimentation prevailing during deposition and the diagenetic changes that take place after deposition. |
