Abstract

This study deals with the behavior and capacity of walls in both one-and two-way action. Twelve reinforced concrete walls specimens were cast and examined vertically under compression. Five of these walls were supported at top and bottom only as one-way action and the rest were supported at all four sides represent the two-way action. The walls are examined under centric and eccentric in-plane forces to failure; the test parameters investigated were the slenderness ratio, aspect ratio, eccentricity and the influence of side supports on their ultimate strengths. The concrete compressive strength varied from 244.5 to 322 Kg/cm2. The vertical and horizontal reinforcement ratio was 0.4% and 0.3 % respectively. The behavior of the tested panels was compared with the previous researchers; as well as the failure load was correlated with the estimations given by the Egyptian Concrete Code, the American Code and the Australian Code formulas. A formula is presented for predicting the ultimate strength of reinforced concrete wall panels in one-or two-way action by simulating the behavior of these walls under axial or eccentric distributed load by an interactive event simulator. The proposed formula based on experimental program contained twelve specimens, as well as numerical analysis for 66wall panels. The comparisons of the proposed equation with, the design formulas of EC203, AS3600, and ACI318 were performed. Moreover, the comparisons were done with the pervious researchers
